Show 45 - Playlist 7/3/2011

VF #45 begins with a Radio Phnom Penh broadcast put out by Sublime Frequencies followed by some tracks I discovered as a result of an email from Ed in Chicago. After a 2 month search I finally found my Electric Wizard CD which inspired a series of doomy metal tracks that relate well to Lyd and Orange Disaster picks by Charles. The playlist pastes an outline for holiday relaxation, then slows to a crawl. Take it as a hint to devise a way to do the same to yourself. Please stand and remove your hat for the final track. Have a great Independence Day! [88 minutes, 84.1 mb, 128kbps]

Show 44 - Playlist 6/12/2011

Summer is setting in. The mornings are still cool, but soon that will give way to a prolonged period of heat. My fan will run all night and I'll lay there in the dark trying to sleep. One good thing I guess… if you've got your hair up in curlers you won't have to wait long for it to dry. And for some reason hot coffee still tastes good in the morning, but after that give me iced please. Look for a bench in the shade and just sip your java slow as you wait for sunset. Show 43 - Playlist 5/29/2011

VF #43 converts a seemingly endless coffee break into an atmospheric diversion. We sat way back in the corner sipping our coffee from porcelain mugs while comparing an assortment of tracks. An odd couple tucked away in the thin air of our minds giggling and trading headphones and pointing out the beat with an index finger. After the intro dialog had been recorded it was time to pack up and head out into an afternoon sprinkle. I don't understand why it is raining so much. I think the weather is stuck just like the general state of culture. For now just go with this. [86 minutes, 82.6 mb, 128kbps]

Show 42 - Playlist 5/15/2011

Show 42 begins with 58 minutes of peaceful calm. The 2nd half of the show was inspired by minimalists Terry Riley and Steve Reich. The improv and repetition hooked up nicely to the ragas and left me in a perfect mood for a hibernating sleep as the rain pattered all nite on my roof.

Show 41 - Playlist 5/1/2011

Intro Translation: The 60s seem comforting compared to the prevailing defeatist attitude, so I thought it would do everyone good to put on some old tracks with a positive vibe and then wrap it all up with some choices from the shelf labeled "Kraut." For good measure I flipped in another track off the new Moon Duo album Mazes. I'm looking forward to my return to the Cow Town and especially the chance to kick around the playlist of the next show with my friend Charles. Oh my where has the last month gone? Enjoy the show. Show 40 - Playlist 4/17/2011

You never know what's going to turn up. The last few weeks have been a test for me in more than one way and the task of creating a radio show seems to take the sting out of the really weird stuff. Music is a medicine, an inspiration and sometimes the only company you can find. This past Tuesday I finally broke away to pick up a copy of Mazes, the latest Moon Duo. Since I am a fan I can only say yes and I kick myself for not going to the Empty Bottle a week ago to hear them play. If you have a chance to see Moon Duo this Saturday in Denver at the Hi-Dive don't mess up, just go. This would be a great scene to bring a date and groove in a dimly lit corner to the vibe.  [89 minutes, 85.1 mb, 128kbps]
