Show 76 - Playlist 11/24/2013

I usually make the rounds of various music sites to see if anything catches my eye and noticed a band named Fuzz on the Dusted List. Of course had to investigate. Turns out it's Ty Segall and two of his high school buds, Charlie Moothart [Culture Kids] and Roland Cosio [Epsilons], doing one of those side projects. So I hacked out a quick listen… then headed directly to my fav music store for a copy. It's been in my car ever since along with Physical Graffiti disc 1 and Sleepy Sun's Embrace. Fuzz brings the old-style Garage/Psych sound with a youthful twist and slams it down into the present reality. They call it Scuzz rock. Show 76 begins with a slew of artists influential to the Fuzz sound including the Deviants, The Scientists, The Troggs, Hawkwind and Galaxy 500. I took it upon myself to add a few more tracks just cause they fit so well. And yes, Neil Young and even Lou Reed were mentioned, just not on this playlist. More and more I'm believing Ty Segall is the real thing. He even abandons his guitar for a drum kit on Fuzz. AND Fuzz was recorded live. [92 minutes, 88.6 mb, 128kbps]

Show 75 - Playlist 10/20/2013

An extended hiatus without much justification. Just lolling the summer away feeling permanent oldness setting in and wondering how to deal with it. Never stopped listening to the music, I just didn't get the energy to put a show together until this past Friday when I kept hearing tracks which got me feeling about how the music was prompting me to unwind, to ponder and to forget the minutia. Little things piling up in the corner of my mind, like sand in my crankcase. And it finally dawned on me one morning when I heard Jason Molina on the speakers as I got to work. I sat down with a little coffee and watched everyone digging the tune, but none of my buds had ever seen Jason play, and most really didn't know a dam thing about him except the tune was raw and soothing at the same time. Show 75 is just soothing and how can that be bad? [133 minutes, 127.9 mb, 128kbps]

Show 74 - Playlist 6/24/2013

Summer is when I think all will be perfect or at least better than previously thought. I am filled with dreams and ideas. I see the new green growth and get the feeling there is hope for goodness. Blue sky days and cool nights cure all those lost winters. I think back to the excitement of summer adventures past, to carefree late night camp fire chats and riotous runs through enchanted forests. Those wondrous picnics seem like just yesterday. My youthful mind spinning along paths, diving into lakes and traveling straight hot roads toward the western sunset with vague AM radio stations drifting from places far away. It all makes me wonder about here and out past where I can see.

Show 73 - Playlist 5/12/2013

Show 73 is constructed around the music I listened to as I moved through the past week. It's got rainy day spacey, ancient electronic, Krauty experiments and enough heavy beat to keep my blood slowly flowing. Music helps me get past most any obstacle. I don't know if the music reflects my mood, but I did have an interesting and fun time which wrapped up at a late Friday evening Black Angel's show. What a week. I hope yours was good too!

Show 72 - Playlist 4/14/2013

Wake up… today's show is a gathering of music dedicated to the end of hibernation. My hibernation to be exact. Maybe that long winter sleep was just a prolonged meditative sojourn. With the sun shining everything feels good. But you need to know the tricks your own mind plays on you. The mind game is the toughest road to travel. As you listen to this show contemplate where each track takes you and decide if that feeling was short lived or life changing. How often does a thought change what road you travel? I was stunned a few weeks ago to hear the kind souled Jason Molina had passed and so young at 39 years. I am still in shock. For an in depth broadcast of Jason's music go here.

Show 71 - Playlist 2/18/2013

FUZzoids! This is Vitamin Fuzz show #71. Isn't music just thoughts? Never ending electrical impulses searching for a node to cling to and reassemble with disconnected thoughts hoping to become useful. Subliminal meteorites flashing near and through the living magma of our minds. We can make this energy into whatever we wish, even manipulating the impulse into dominance. Leaven those impulses with creativity and common sense and true humanity comes forth. The best control is little or none at all. The true art to master is non-control.

Show 70 - Playlist 1/27/2013

2013. A dawn in the darkness of altered tradition and status quo. I enter this scene slowly, quietly and deliberately concentrating with deep breaths before a long uphill journey across the parched commerciality. Sniff the warm putrid air. Eye the gray horizon. Stormy describes the longterm forecast, so I look to the music as my guide to enlightenment. It's time to go forward. Rely on your mind's eye. Show #70 begins now.
